Here's how we're taking action in our community:
Jackie, Michael and Luka had an idea to have a garage sale and raise money for pets whose owners could not afford care.
Here's how we got the idea:
I was talking to my friends about wanting to help animals. One of our classmates had a garage sale for helping Japan. Thats how we got the idea of having a garage sale to help animals.
These are the steps we took:
Each child participating will work a total of 4 hours organizing for the garage sale and selling at the Garage Sale November 5th. Each parent will donate water and sodas for the garage sale that the children will be responsible for selling. Proceeds from the Garage sale and drinks will be donated to support the Ripples project. During the week of October 17th we will have a large box or bin in front of the office for collection. The parents will collect items at the end of every day the week of Oct. 17th. We project our project to have 30 hours total volunteer time. We will also have help from parents and siblings. Our final project will be reported to Ripples kids in December.
We would like Jackie, Michael and Luka to announce the kids Ripple Project Friday Flag Ceremony on October 14th and include an ad in the Arroyo paper on Friday October 14th. The collection of items will be one week beginning Oct. 17th and our first Garage sale will be November 5th. We would also like a follow up ad to be placed in the Arroyo Friday news letter November 4th.
Here are some of the results:
We collected 8 bags of items by placing bins in front of our school office. For a week we checked them everyday. At first we were not getting many donations, so I passed out flyers to the Moms I knew at school. We also emailed my classroom and my brothers classroom. Then the week before I passed out flyers to my neighbors. Finally the night before the garage sale I posted signs advertising the garage sale. At the end of the day we earned a total of $191.00 a couple of days later my neighbor sent $20.00 contributing toward my cause.
These are the people who volunteered with me:
My friends, My family
One of the coolest things that happened during my project was:
We sold drinks at the garage sale, which earned extra money.
One of the most important things I learned was:
Kids can make a difference. I also really liked raising money for a good cause.
