Here's how we're taking action in our community:
My girl scout troop met with the Joyful Foundation and agreed to make dog toys from their blanket scraps. We made lanyard type dog toys and sold the them to raise money for the Joyful Foundation so that they could buy material to make more blankets. The blankets are given to patients in the hospital to keep them warm while going through treatments.
Here's how we got the idea:
We heard of the Joyful Foundation through friends and met with the organization to see how we could help them. They said we were too young to sew the blankets, but they had scraps that they would like us to make into dog toys and then sell them to raise money to purchase more material for the blankets.
These are the steps we took:
The troop met with the Joyful Foundation and they gave us the scraps to make the dog toys. Each girl took home a stack of scraps and made the lanyard type dog toy. We met, made posters and wrote our speech to give at the Arroyo and Redhill Flag Ceremonies. We announced that we would be selling the dog toys after school the following week. The following week we met after school and sold the dog toys in front of the school office.
Here are some of the results:
We quickly sold many dog toys after school and between the two schools raised $300. It costs $25 for the Joyful Foundation to make one blanket, so we were able to earn enough money to make 12 blankets.

One of the coolest things that happened during my project was:
We were so excited to see so many people wanted to buy the dog toys and help support the Joyful Foundation. Also, the Joyful Foundation asked us to make a bunch of the cut and tie type blanket using old Microsoft T-shirts. We made 20 blankets. Microsoft then handed these blankets out to homeless people.
