Here's how we're taking action in our community:
I collect bottles and cans and recycle them, collect the money, and donate it to the animals at Irvine Animal Care Center. My mom and dad help me collect the bottles and cans and they drive me to the recycling center and the IACCC about once a week.
Here's how we got the idea:
I was at a birthday party and they had a lot of small water bottles left over. I remembered from school that you can get money for recycling them so I asked the birthday kids dad if I could have all the bottles and cans and he said yes. So I took them home and that was the first time I started recycling for pets.
These are the steps we took:
I collect cans and bottles everywhere I go.
I have my mom or dad drive me to the recycling center about once a week.
Then we go straight to the IACC and donate the money.
Here are some of the results:
I usually raise somewhere between $12.00-$20.00 each month and I have been doing this since I was 5 years old. Im 9 years old now.
These are the people who volunteered with me:

One of the coolest things that happened during my project was:
I got to be an official IACC volunteer for a whole day! Volunteers have to be 18 years old or older. But Crystal let me be a volunteer for a day because of all my hard work. I got to wear the vest and help with the cats and the dogs. I also won the OCs Most Humane Kid award for my recycling program.
One of the most important things I learned was:
I learned that there are so many pets out there that dont have homes and that people can find a great pet at a shelter and dont have to go to a pet store or breeder. We adopted our cat Elsa Cherry from the IACC and she is the best cat in the world!
