Here's how we're taking action in our community:
We are trying to raise money to find a cure for ALS as well as trying to find others to walk on our team at the ALS walk on November 7th. We will try to raise money by selling lemonade at school once a week for about a month as well as raising money on our teams webpage on the ALS walk website.
Here's how we got the idea:
My Nan Nan has ALS and so I thought what a great way to show her support and love by raising money for the Irvine ALS walk and telling others about the disease and trying to get others to join our team at the walk.
These are the steps we took:
First, we make a poster and signs promoting our lemonade stand and the ALS walk. Then, we make the lemonade and put our table together. Then, we make a sign up sheet for people to join us on our team for the walk and also get a basket for donations. My mom will make it so people can also donate on line. Then, we sell our lemonade and promote joining the team at the ALS walk once a week for about 4-5 weeks afterschool. Then, on November 7th, we walk in the ALS walk. Lastly, we give all the money to the ALS association.
Here are some of the results:
I raised 535.00 dollars, 185 through lemonade sales and the remainder online through donations to my site on the ALS walk website. I did not have anyone sign up to walk with me, but I did have my entire family and my Nan Nan walking that day so it was a success. There were over 20 people walking with me that day.
These are the people who volunteered with me:
My friends, My family
One of the coolest things that happened during my project was:
To see all the kids at the school who came every week and donated. Some even gave 10 and 20 dollars towards my fundraising when the lemonade was only 25 cents.
One of the most important things I learned was:
Helping out others is the best thing ever and other people are always willing to help too.
